EVE Online

Before I fly a Drami, I'm going to fly an Ishkur. That way I'll have both Minnie frigate and Gallente frigate to level 5 and get the max bonuses to the ship. The fact that it can kill Vagas amazes me, and makes me REALLY want one even more now. :D

Perhaps because I'm new I don't understand the thrill of picking on new players. I don't even know how to "secure" a container, or that it was even possible.
I have noticed the losers sitting around with cans hoping someone gets into them so they can attack.
Is the game really this boring that the only thing to do is try and trick miners and other new players into changing their status so you can kill them?

Where is the challenge?

You can buy secure containers from the market and anchor them in 0.7 space and below. They need to be anchored, otherwise someone can just come up and scoop the entire can into their cargo, and even if there's a password, once they repackage the can for sale, all the contents come out of it.

The people that put bait cans outside noob stations and belts need to be banned. We witnessed an entire fleet of hurricanes, stabbers, and rifters placing cans in belts labeled "free ore" in a noob system and reported them to CCP, because frankly, that's just bullshit. You can one shot a noob ship in just about any poorly-fitted frigate, there is no reason to have an entire fleet of PVP ships to grief the new guys. Personally I would be also flying a noob ship if I wanted to try to introduce them to PvP.

However, in many systems people will place the cans outside major hubs so that they can fight other experienced players without having to go to low/null sec. Generally by the time people are using these systems, they've got enough experience to know not to flip a can unless they want a fight. Usually this turns to hilarious, one sided fights and people losing extremely expensive ships. The other night I watched a guy in a fully T2 fitted Scorpion Navy Issue get popped by an entire fleet of battleships and cruisers outside Dodixie IX M20 Station. Everyone exchanged the obligatory "GF" afterwards, and I looted the wreck and made about 10 million with what I could fit in my Rifter.

Miners on the other hand should know not to jetcan mine. I just like to remind them. :D

Join a good corporation as soon as possible. The game is only really fun if you work together and interact with people.

Absolutely. I almost quit Eve until I found my current corp. We jump on Mumble (voice chat) every night while flying ops and it really just makes the game much more fun.

It isn't called an MMO for nothing. Also, it's NOT an easy MMO like WoW! The learning curve is steep, and that's a GOOD thing because it keeps out a lot of the "bad" players.

Yeah, doesn't really matter which MMO, but you need a voice chat with it.

But thanks Rota for making this among the most interesting threads on AF. I really enjoy reading about your raids and stories in this game, keep em posted even though I don't play this game. Fun and very entertaining reads to be honest. :)

Haha no problem. I don't get to chat about Eve in person with anyone, so I get to kind of let it all out here. If you want to read about other interesting goings on in Eve, check out the blogs of some of the guys I fly with.

EDIT BY CYBERIN: Since Max seems to be MIA, I've taken the liberty of updating this first post with all the links I know, if you have a blog that's missing...or know of one that is missing, please post in this thread.

What is ninja salvaging?

It's where you use scan probes to find a mission runner who is in a mission, usually a level 3 or 4 mission since these are actually profitable, and you warp in and salvage the wrecks from the mission rats. Its a fun way to make a lot of isk very quickly, especially since a new player can train up the necessary skills and build a scan ship and salvage ship within the first few days of playing.

Now if you want some real fun while ninja salvaging, you take the loot out of the wrecks too, and see if the mission runner will shoot you. If he does, you go grab your Hurricane and come back and pop him.

Also, stealing mission objective items is quite profitable. Not only does the mission runner get really angry, you can make anywhere from 15 to 45 million by selling mission objectives on contract in Jita.

Have fun!

I love EVE online. Been playing since 2006 and have 3 toons. Feel free to message or mail Sevreth in game.

I am a mining master and a decent fleet commander. My corp is low key industrial with a lot of connections around the universe. We have our own little slice of low sec that we exploit.

Sev reached 60 mil SP a few weeks ago. One of my corp mates has 150+ mil SP....he is a god haha.

Cheers,

-Sev

It worked fine for me. One of the mods or whatever with the ISO name in the rookie channel handed the link out there so it came from them.

I gave it a shot but I forgot to play the last few days which isn't a good sign. I think it's too repetitive/slow to start for me.

Hi guys,

I see it's been about a year from the last posts to this thread, but being the Eve Online freak that I am, hand me the paddles...CLEAR! :D

I have been playing the game for over 5 years now and have enjoyed some of the posts in this tread quite a bit. My char that gets the most use is Cold Ethyl. "She" has not seen much action in the last year or so due to RL troubles I have had, but back in the day she was a real bitch to contend with: Cold Ethyl - Killboards - EVE Online - BattleClinic - MMO guides - tools - advice - forums (Killboard for CE)

I must agree with JohnShepherd and Rota on the race and line of ships for Eve fun being Minmatar. One of the ships not mentioned for gank fun that I think should be is the Sleipnir. I have piloted this ship for solo kills vs BS, both standard and faction. Don't get me wrong, I love the Vaga, Loki, Rupture, 'Cane and all the rest. Hell, I've even made 3 or 4 kills using a Mammoth ;)

I think the line that takes the cake for this whole post was what Rota said about the reply to his citation..."She's a feisty one. " That is too funny.

My situation that has kept me from being active in game is improving so I am ramping up and preparing to be very active once again. Rota, I have seen Suddenly Ninja members in my area off and on and think I may have even seen your char once or twice. Your corp does the type of things I enjoy most in game. Maybe I might look into joining.

Anyhow, look me up in game if you want.

I played EVE for many years, starting not long after it came out, to late 2009 / early 2010.

Was a very good game, but it slowly changed away from what i enjoyed, the small roaming gangs etc. POS warfare was where i started to loose interest.

For those who know some history, i was In Reikoku (RKK), who were one of the original CCCP, later renamed as Band Of Brothers (BOB) founders.
Awesome corp, and alliance. Hated by a large portion of the community, as we generally just raped and pillaged :)
Still friends with many of them.

When i stopped training, think my main was around 90 odd mil sp.

And I used to fly for RZR alliance who were allies of Goonfleet and fought both Delve wars against BoB :)

Harsh times! I also lost quite a bit of interest after the massive grind of the POS wars with huge fleets but I rediscovered my EVE mojo when our corp left RZR and went to wormhole space. A small group of old friends, a WH and a steady supply of PvP targets - it's fantastic.

Here's a little vid I made the other night: twotengus.mp4 - YouTube

Here's the link to the killboard: battle clinic That shows the Noctis that died first but wasn't in that vid.

This game is not for everyone, but it does reward those who are prepared to put in the effort. OH, and for any existing EVE pilots, there's a very handy Android App called Aura that helps you with skill training and planning.
