See...The internet is a series of tubes, and one of the main lines got clogged up with a big wad o'porn. I am so glad I did not have to clean that out.
I regularly talk on my phone, and use Skype for the international calls. ) However I just looked at Oovoo and Kik on Play. "This app is not available in your country." ...United States only? - like Google Voice. ..or possibly the don't have an ICP license to operate in China?

What? I swear kik wasn't a U.S. thing only.
It might be restricted availability rather than US only, I was just guessing. I know Google Voice is US only. I'm getting "This app is not available in your country " for Kik on Play. I use Skype myself, which is available here.

This is it. You can talk up to 9 people in one conversation. Its kinda like Skype without the video.

(My ISP) offers no explanation of weekend service failures
- The Internet and cable television failure experienced by area residents on Saturday during the NFL division playoffs has yet to be explained by my ISP.
On Sunday, the media provider and utility posted a vague explanation regarding the outages to its Facebook site:
"Late yesterday, my ISP experienced a denial-of-service attack against two major points on our network which prevented some of our customers from accessing our services. This issue has been resolved and my ISP will be working with our vendors to ensure these types of attacks won't resurface on our network. We apologize for any inconvenience this outage may have caused. We appreciate you for bearing with us yesterday as we worked to resolve this issue."
In addition to my area, failures were noted in New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma.
A call to the company's technical support department on Sunday provided no information on the failures. The newspaper was told to call back on Monday, during business hours.
Repeated calls and emails to the company on Monday still did not provide any information on the cause or if customers would be credited for the time their Internet and cable stations were down.

Funny that it went down again, apparently in four states, but came up after they tinkered with the box just a few houses away from mine!

I get random cut offs during peak times. And non peak times. I use LTE to cover me until I get back up and running. When it goes down, it goes downhill. Cable modem will freak out with orange and red lights. Scared me one time when I was asleep and saw red lights..

Shhh... I tether at those times, pokey but successful. That is, if the phone didn't go down too.

Being disconnected from the 'net doesn't bother me too much these days. When I played EVE Online, Star Trek Online, and the likes, it really did get to me. When I did more Google+ stuff, the same. But nowadays, it doesn't really bother me not to be 'online'. Losing everything would be... Sorely inconvenient, but I think I could deal with it for a few weeks.

And I'm having to tether AGAIN this evening. How can a a cable modem system that was installed fifteen years ago and run by the same company all that time just up and die, three times in the last six months?
3G tethering is pretty slow, but a lot more dependable, as I see it.
