Help EVO 4G LTE - Max Wifi Link Speed? (LAN, not WAN)

PreMo15

Hey everyone, first time poster here.

I wanted to get some input from everyone on the max link speed they've seen when connected to a wireless N network with their Evo LTE. I ask because:

I've had mine for a few weeks now and use it primarily while connected to my wireless network at home. My router advertises 300+450mbps on the 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands respectively, but I've only ever been able to connect to it with my Evo at a max of 65mbps on both bands. I realize there are several variables that affect this, and to be clear I do not expect to be able to connect at 300 or 450mbps (if only). But I was hoping to see a 150mbps connection because from what I've gathered, the 802.11 radio in the Evo should be able to support channel bonding (40mhz) and short guard interval (400ns) using a single stream...which should equal a maximum throughput of 150mbps. I would post the link where I found this information, but alas, I cannot post links yet so I'm embedding the quote below. Hint: it was from AnandTech.

Granted, this information is for the One X, but I'm under the impression that it shares the same hardware with the Evo LTE in this department:

Hello and welcome to the forums! :D Glad to have you here.

As far as the question at hand, my internet at this house absolutely sucks. The good news is that I am moving into my permanent residence tomorrow and it should have a more reliable internet connection. I can get some reliable test results there.

Have you confirmed that your internet connection is capable of those speeds?

Thanks! :)

My connection here is pretty decent, I get an average of about 25-30mbps down, so getting a link speed of 150mbps on my phone is pretty much moot since I'll never get that kind of connection to the internet. But I just wired my house for gigabit ethernet so I'm on a "everything must connect at max speeds!" kick at the moment. I would also love to present my wife with further evidence of why she should ditch her iphone :D

Even if you saw 150 Link speed posted on the handsets wifi display, the handset is not fast enough to crunch numbers and give you the throughput you are looking for, not to mention the internet /ISP will not give you that max speed. latency also plays a part in this equation.

the HTC one X/4G LTE is faster than the iphone anyway. thats a moot point. :D

Yeah, that's pretty much on par with what I get on my speed tests too (also TW). And I get that my connection to the internet is not going to change or even be close to the speed at which I connect to the router, but I'm more interested in the actual link speed displayed in the wifi settings menu by Sense:

I'm sitting at 36 on that screen, but I don't believe this is a wireless n router

Cool, thanks. I agree that it's probably not an N router since 36 is a G standard data rate. I'm glad we're getting some speeds posted, thanks for getting the ball rolling :)

Anyone else?

Mine is sitting at 58m on the status screen, best I get down via internet is in the 20s.

Cool thanks...mine hovers at 58 pretty often too. Do you know if your router is setup to use 40mhz channels and short guard intervals?

Since 58 and 65 are data rates that you get when using 20mhz channels and long guard intervals, I'm interested to know if you're router is set up that way. If not, then the phone's gotta be the bottleneck...
