Help evo 4g sprint flashed to boost

I didn't do the flash, but since I rooted it myself, its the gingerbread version
for voice to text on the IM, it has an app called 'voice search' 2.1.1, it works pretty good but suddenly it only works if I'm wifi connected, it used to work always, as long as I had bars showing, so with this I'm assuming its smart enuf to determine to use either phone connectivity or wifi which ever is available. I didn't do anything that I know of to change its behavior and when I bring it in Apps I don't see any config settings to mess with.
its very 'embedded' in the phone setup as it has a tab right on the keyboard with its logo on the tab

Anybody have any ideas how to get this working on the phone again?
and also more in general, is there some way to set internet access to work the same way? right now if I have wifi only, I can't get internet, it seems to only work through the phone connection

duh, ok found it, under wireless and networks there is 'mobile network' it was turned off, I don't remember doing that but it must have been, so text to voice is working. However, there still remains the question, can the settings for internet access be set such that if there is no phone connectivity it will check for wifi and use that instead?
