Help Evo GPS and Maps in Europe?

rosemore

Newbie
I have been informed that the Evo CDMA protocol is not supported in Europe.

Is there any way to download maps and use the GPS functionality?

Thanks.

There are several apps on the market for this. The only one I can think of that works for actual navigation is Maverick:

Maverick - Android app on AppBrain

Just search the market for "offline gps" or something like that, and you'll find several options. I've never used any of them, so I can't say how well any of them work. Also, make sure whatever you find or anyone suggests works outside the US.

Other than that, keep in mind that the Evo uses agps, so you'll need to turn off "use wireless network" under menu->settings->location. You may have a hard time getting a lock, but it *should* work. Try it out now by going into airplane mode, turning off that setting, then trying to get a location with gps (obviously you won't see anything on a map with google maps, but all you'd need is coordinates).
