Root EVO HELP...Android 2.2 wont install

alex43

Newbie
Here is the million dollar question:

I have an EVO and i travel a lot so i never wanted to loose my wifi tethering, so i never updated to Android 2.2. i decided it was time to update, but my phone wont take the update. I cleared to a factory reset and superusers is still installed. but the phone is not rooted anymore. it shows S-ON

Firmware version
2.1 update1

Software #
1.47.651.1

The question is how do i instal the Froyo 2.2 update to my phone. or how do i uninstal superusers? I tried to do it manually from recovery mode and thru Wi-fi

You're still rooted.
If you want to get just regular OTA 2.2 you have to unroot and install.

If you dont want to lose root and your wireless tether you should just flash a custom rom, it'll have all the 2.2 goodies and you'll still be rooted. Just don't forget to make a nandroid before hand.

Here's a list of Roms for the Evo:
HTC Supersonic/ROMs - XDA-Developers

At the top of that list is the Stock OTA's. You can download one of those RUUs and connect your phone to your computer then run it, it'll get rid of your root and update you all at once.

THANK YOU!
i installed the original RUU went back to original factory settings, and started fresh. I installed all the updates, re rooted, and installed wireless teather, and now up back up to date.

thanks for your help!
