Help Evo is dropping calls and making unsolicited calls

Third EVO and still having strange problems - calls drop, calls don't hang up (even if I hit the button and it "looks" like it hung up), and the weirdest - the phone makes calls on its own (no it's not butt dialing - the phone can be across the room and I'll notice it's called someone, not necessarily the last person I talked to, and is leaving a long voicemail. Needless to say, this isn't only annoying but the overage calls are killing me - I've had three months of $100+ overage fees. Sprint has done nothing to try to fix this other than tell me to do a hard reset.

When I first started using Sprint the reception in my area was good, which is why I went with them (this is back in the day when Sprint was new). Now the map says it's not so good in my area - I'm wondering if that is what is causing my problems. We still only have 3G, no 4G, and often no 3G. I hate to leave Sprint but I'm at a loss as to next steps - not to mention people are sick of being called at all hours from my phone.

I don't have it rooted because that is the first thing Sprint asks. This phone only has 6 people in the directory and it is already misbehaving.

Any ideas????? Thanks!

Step 1, call CS and ask for Account Services. Tell them you will cancel your account if they dont take the fees off. There is NO reason you should have to pay for phone calls that your phone has been making by itself.

Step 2, have you done a hard reset? If not, do one. If you have, take it to a sprint corporate store, tell them whats going on, and ask for a replacement. If you have to, leave the phone there all day so they can see it happen.

How long do these phantom calls last? $100s in overages is not just a simple call here and there. When the person you are on the phone with hangs up, that will end the call. If Sprint is still billing you for time AFTER hanging up, that is truely odd. I can't tell why that would ever happen.

Are the phantom calls being made to obscure numbers, or are all the numbers in your phone book?

I'm still fighting about the bills. Unfortunately because I renewed my 2 year agreement I am stuck with pretty high fees to cancel and they know it - although at the rate of these overages I'm better off paying it off and going with someone else. I've had the phone replaced so I'm wondering if somehow this is a condition where poor reception and Evo mix to make a hellish mess. I've done so many hard resets that I don't even bother putting all the software back on because I know I'm going to be resetting it. The numbers seem to be numbers I've had a relationship with (either someone called or I called - whether it is actually in the address book or not). There doesn't seem to be any correlation, though, on when the number was last called, it's position in call history/address book, etc. Most of the time (although not 100%) I'm not even touching the phone when it happens.

If it happens frequently, drop by a Sprint store and show them. I've found that almost any issue they can see directly results in a positive resolution. I've not have random redialing, but I have found it's incredibly easy to redial a call while placing the phone back in my pocket or Sedio clip. I don't know why, but certainly since the Froyo upgrade this has been the case. I never had any accidental redials with 2.1 so it could be that the touch sensitivity is slightly different.
