EVO V or iPhone 4s?????

Neither. Both are overpriced.

Actually not true at all. If your into it buying the IPhone outright will save you money over the course of 2 years even using any of the postpaid carriers cheapest plans. And the Evo went for $200 a year ago postpaid, when it was Sprints flagship and now it ships with ICS on board. For once Virgin got the best over Boost, our Evo is much nicer than the Design imho.

Don't feel too bad, those iPhone users will have to stay on auto pay for 4-6 years to match the $250-350 you saved purchasing an Evo instead of an iPhone! :D

The one possible difference is that iPhones tend to have a higher resale value than Android phones, so someone selling their iPhone in 2 years likely can make up $200 or so in the price difference.

Eh. The iPhone we are getting is basically an old Nokia in terms of software.

I bet once they release the iPhone 5, This phone will be looked as an ancient relic.

They've released some beta of iOS 5. Perhaps maybe It's even an official upgrade.
From what I've read though, It's riddled with problems. People have bricked their phones, got stuck in bootloops, had apps act wonky, etc.

Sure all that has happened with androids, but darn if it isn't easier to fix yourself...

Actually, iOS 5 has been out for quite some time. You are thinking of iOS 6, which won't be out until this fall. And, as for this phone (the iPhone 4s), when iOS 6 is introduced owners will be able to upgrade and be able to use all the features. And for those that have problems with the upgrade, there are Apple Stores which are quite helpful in fixing these problems (even providing replacements when needed).

Granted, the iPhone 5 will have some nice features; likely 4G (LTE), a quad core processor (iPhones are actually programmed to use all the cores), and a higher rez screen. But the 4s won't become obsolete.

The difference between iOS 4 and iOS 5 was just Siri right? Though there will be the "Cloud" for iOS 6 perhaps? Was it in iOS 5 though already?

What is the difference between iOS 5 and iOS 6?

If iOS 6 is targeted towards the iPhone 5 and It's rumored hardware specs, How would it also be compatible with inferior hardware on the older phones?

You'd have to drum down some features right? So technically it wouldn't really be an upgrade would it?
I don't consider minor color and design changes to be anything innovative.

They have to either drum down features on their new devices or stop support for their older ones.
Either way It's quite a quandary.

iOS 5 was the "cloud upgrade" that happened last October, though it also included Siri (but only for the 4s). iOS 6 is the version just announced by Apple at their Developer conference a month ago, that will be released this Fall. It appears that all features of iOS 6 will work fine on a 4s; the iPhone 4 will lack some abilities, but then it can't run Siri now. iOS 6 has some new features, such as Apple Maps (and Navigation), Facebook integration, a major Siri upgrade, and Passbook. Apple tries to make the OS work on as many old devices as possible, though they disable features (like Siri) that the older devices can't handle. In the case of iOS 6, you will be able to load it on the iPhone 3GS and newer.

Again, I think the major upgrade of the iPhone 5 will be adding 4G; I think the processor and screen upgrades will be nice but not major.

iOs 6 has a better version of Siri (that the Android 4.1 google voice search blows away), their own version of maps and lots of minor changes here and there. I like making my phone my own, which is why I like Android. Not enough customization for iOs for me. Not everyone wants to have that level of customizations so to each their own.

Possible, but I don't think the depreciation will be much different between the two. In two years the iPhone 4S will likely be two, almost three (with the iPhone 5 looming already,) models behind. In two years the Evo will probably be worth $100-150 secondhand, I don't think it'll take more than a $200 hit off retail. Comparatively, I doubt the iPhone will still be worth $350+ when, if pricing remains similar, for $550 you could get a new iPhone 5S (or whatever they call it.) On top of that, the iPhone is stuck on 3G, which is going to seem very dated in two years. Assuming of course, that Virgin isn't on LTE by then.

Just playing devil's advocate here :D

I've wanted an iPhone for so long now, and now that it's finally on vm I'm starting to question my decision. I dont mind paying the outrageous price because I know that's how much the no contract fee is, I just dont want it to end up being a waste and I regret getting it. I feel like I love the iPhone so much, not because of the phone itself, but cause of it's memory, storage and speed! And I feel like it being on sprint/virgin network, it wont be as fast as say, an att iphone. You know? Has anyone used the virgin mobile iphone and seen first hand if it's slow cause of the network?

The way the laws are, they have to be sue happy or they can lose their patents for not protecting them.

There are major differences in actively protecting legitimate patent disputes and quite another being the annoying biggest kid on the block ip troll. Same bs Microsoft used to pull, sue you, get you to agree to unfair licensing or buy you outright. Sadly much innovation is being lost because of these foolish trolls all over the world. Almost everything envisioned in this day and age has some prior art, does this mean that innovators can not legally extend such art in ways that it for all intents it becomes something completely new and different?

Fyi

Android uses all the cores too. It scales depending on the load. If iPhones used them all at the same time ALL the time...expect a 1 hour battery life.
