Evolve on MetroPCS

So, I understand that this is a 3G only phone, but it's inexpensive. Metro is selling them for $59. I bought 5 of them for my children to use as Wi-Fi only devices; music player, games, etc. I'm hoping that this phone'll get a little bit of activity at least. I followed the rooting thread in the root section and it worked for Metro's variant. Anyway, thought I'd introduce myself to the denizens of the section of the forums. Hopefully there will be more than crickets chirping.

It sounds like you got a great deal on the five phones. I basically use my Atrix 2 the way you're intending your kids to use these--as wi-fi only, playing games, listening to music, etc. For me, it's not so much that I CHOOSE to do that, it's that darned AT&T! I can't get a signal at my house, so when I'm home my phone is essentially NOT a phone. Good thing I have a landline.

I see you're in DFW. I lived in the North Dallas area for years before I moved back home to Southern California. How are you doing? Last I heard it was icy and cold there.

Yeah, it got cold today after about a week off some really nice temps. No ice yet.

Yeah, I didn't figure that this particular forum would see too much activity. This is after all only a 3G phone in a day and age of most people wanting 4G/LTE capable phones. Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I picked one up for myself, as a temp phone when my Motion 4G took a swim. I used it for about three weeks until I was able to get myself a Moto G. My children are still using theirs as WiFi only game devices, music players, etc.

Hi everybody . I need some help. My cousin has an evolve . she was visiting a website on chrome using swype . problem is either chrome crashes loading the website , or Swype pops up and then just disappears . chrome itself I've noticed it's slow. Swype however has popped up and disappeared on gmail writing an email as well. So do y'all think this is a chrome problem , or a Swype problem , or perhaps both?. I appreciate everyone's help. Btw I didn't want to start a new thread I hope y'all can help ... If not I'm sorry.

Yup, it works well for that. I feel the videos are a little washed out on YT and stuff but for $20 I can't really complain. She probably won't even ever use all that stuff but at least it's there. I got her a 16GB micro for it for under $10 on Amazon with free 2 day shipping. The 2GB was like 6 bux so I figured for a few dollars more. She probably wouldn't of even filled a 2GB card but now I can put Barry Gibb and Sade and all her music on it while the 0.94GB of internal stays available for apps which she'll never download but at least she has all that space on the card for music, pictures, videos, and stuff.

Returned the Evolve, and ordered the Concord II instead. For just $10 more, you're getting a decent upgrade of a phone. I feel she'll be happier with that. Will be here on Monday.

Yeah, the ZTE Concord II is much better for just $10 more. Much much smoother, better display, better playback quality from youtube, and netflix, etc. Connectivity to the PC is way better too. Comes with its own drivers which allows for all types of choices when it's connected to the PC. I'm pleased with it for my Mom, and when she comes home today, I'll be going over it with her.
