Help Exchange emails (default client) keeps sending me repeat notifications

insshc

Lurker
My dumb university email requires me to a) have a McAfee EMM security system on my phone which locks certain features and b) apparently restricts email syncing (Exchange server) to the default email client.

Fine, I can unhappily deal with that. However, my phone repeatedly sends me "new email" notifications for emails that I have already read and swiped away the notification for, multiple times. And I can't even try out solutions like a different mail client to see if that fixes it, because of the security system. My gmail account doesn't do this.

Any suggestions for why this is happening?

If you are swiping away only at the notification bar some notifications are only "snoozed" and you must enter the app and look at the items creating the notifications.

An another note EMM is...Icky as one reviewer called it. I had it once, long ago and removed it. The frustration of the app outweighed its usefulness. It is unfortunate that you are locked into it.

Right, sorry if I wasn't clear - the repeated notifications occur with emails that I have already read in the email client itself (as well as swiping away the notification).

My first suggestion since you went into the email client and read them would be to restart the phone. If it has continued after that you may have to remove the exchange account from the phone and add it again.

I do remember reading somewhere about Moto X users that had KitKat installed were experiencing the same issue. That may be a sign that it is an issue with how KitKat integrates with exchange.

I would see if you can talk with anyone else at the University that has your same setup and see if they are having the same issue.
