Help Excited Brand New Android Owner (Droid 2) Questions...

Ok then, I don't think you can, Even though the droid 2 as flash 10.1 built in. When I tried to go to hulu and watch a tv show, it says "Unfortunately, this video is not available on your platform. We apologize for any incoveniece."

As far as the Netflix goes there would have to be an app for that. Wich i'm sure there is not. I checked and all there were was apps to add to your existing queue. But not one to actually be able to watch movies. The blockbuster app is the only one I think that will do that.

Wow a lot of great replies in this thread, cool! Thanks for your help... I am going to check into the BB app, if its affordable I might buy it to watch movies since there really isn't an alternative.

PS: One pressing outstanding question I still have, is how to truly browse the internet from the phone like a desktop so all sites are rendered in full true-to-life pages, in stead of being re-routed to mobile sites and having content restricted!?

I wasn't getting any avi files to work on my phone through DLNA. I thought it wasn't a supported format. I'll have to try again.

And yeah, I went as far as to use Launcher Pro to hide the Blockbuster app (and some other bloatware) from my app drawer.

Try Handbreak.

Excellent, I'll try that! I've heard of it before, not sure if it can rip directly from the inserted DVD into my laptops disc drive and remove protection/copy right, but I can remove the copy right from my owned DVDs with DVD Fab first to an .iso file and then perhaps use handbreak?

Hopefully Handbreak can also resize the DVD so it doesn't take up my internal SD card! :)

Well at this point, aside from my confusion with emulators, most of my other concerns and questions revolve around functions AFTER the phone is rooted... so in the meantime while I/we're waiting for the root, here is my last truly pressing question:

How do I browse the web in a TRULY 100% full desktop capacity WITHOUT being re-directed to Mobile sites or having web content watered down? THANKS!!!

PS: I took plenty of pictures this morning (ugh, don't get me started on the camera 'quality') and I wanted to Email them to myself or share them on Face Book etc, but when I open an Email and click "Attach File" I can't see any pictures, it says that the SD card is unmounted or unavaialable - but I haven't messed with any settings and those pictures I took earlier are VERY important for a work project

I think there is a way to default to "desktop" mode in the stock browser, but I don't recall how to do it. I know with Skyfire you can set this option, its one of their main features. Additionally, nearly every mobile site I've been redirected to had the option at the bottom somewhere to revert back to the "full" site.

I dont think there is a way to set it so it goes to the full website. usually you got to click the view full site and the bottom of most web pages. I looked at the settings and did not see anything that would allow you to set it so it does go to the full websites.

I downloaded and installed Skyfire beta earlier this week, and it didn't seem to play videos correctly. I thought there was a 'no mobile' command I could type in the browser to bypass all mobile re-directing? Why on earth with Android 2.2 and Flash compatibility am I being directed to mobile sites anyway? :(

bump :)

Was your phone plugged into your computer at the time? If it was plugged in as anything other than charge only the phone can't see the card because it is mounted to the computer.

I have been playing around with all the different settings, and I'm still confused, but I got some things to download to the phone and also was able to access files via usb cable. The 'debugging,' and 'pc mode,' etc all had me like "Huh?"

Oh, PS: To answer your question, no my phone wasn't plugged into the PC while I was trying to access the pictures I had taken earlier that day. I ended up plugging it in though to try and transfer the pics, in stead of Emailing them to myself :)

Dolphin Browser HD is another popular browser, though I'm not sure if it has the full site feature.

What would this have to offer Skyfire beta and the built-in Browser doesn't?

Also, since I have the Droid 2, and it came with 2.2 Froyo, I don't have to download Flash 10.1 in the app store, right?

Is any other D2 users having issues with battery life? This is my first android device and hubby has D1 so he has helped me with alot of helpful apps...but taskkiller isn't closing the apps that aren't being used I read a task killer isn't needed but my battery lasts 6 Hours tops and its turning off dead! Not sure what im doing wrong... or maybe im expecting more battery life... but normal texting and normal usage shouldn't kill a phone... am I crazy? My old env touch used to go days on a single charge! Any help?

remove the task killer, that'll help a ton right there. The killer is fighting w/ froyo.

Hi Everyone :)

Been getting acquainted with my Droid 2 for the past couple weeks... some questions I have right now if you would be so kind as to help out please...

- When I hook the phone up to a computer to charge, it won't charge, even if I turn it off it will turn itself on and come to the home/lock screen and do nothing... I assume I don't have a setting right much like the multiple setting changes I have to make to access the SD card (Debugging, PC Only, etc etc). What can I do to make sure this works? (It says: "Connect your charger")

- How can I have a notification on my home screen that I have a new Text Message? This is among the hugest disappointments I've been having... my friend wonder why I never respond as fast as I used to with Windows Mobile.

- What is the best power manager app out there to save the battery power since I am vacationing coming up soon, and want to use my phone to take pictures during the day (although the camera is... well, don't get me started)

THANKS, that's all for now!

PS: EVERY TIME I go to put quote signs (" ") into a messge, it always puts the quote signs on the PREVIOUS ending word, anyway to stop this? UGH!

1) Check with a different USB cable, and check with a different wall plug. My MOTO wall to USB plug thingy didn't work properly. So now I just use a different one.

2) "Text Messaging" -> "Menu Button" -> "Messaging Settings" -> "Notifications"

3) I don't suggest power management apps, since its an app of itself and any savings in energy would be nullified by the app power usage itself. Instead:
- Switch Battery to "Nighttime Saver" or "Maximum Battery Saver" since you'll be on vacation.
- Switch Display Brightness to "Auto" or the lowest setting you can work with.
- Don't leave AIM, GTALK, and other similar apps running when you're not using them.
- Turn off radios (Wifi, BT, GPS) when you're no using them.

4) Not sure about that, but if I find anything on the " " problem, I'll let you know.
