Exclusive Motorola Android Charm

Wonder how this phone is going to age. My GF is on Telus here in Manitoba with a regular old dumbphone and has always liked her Moto's. She doesn't like my touchscreen HTC Magic (the keyboard frustrates her) and doesn't want to re-up on a long contract. This would make a nice Xmas gift, but that's 4 months away...which might as well be 100 years the way Android develops.

Also, anybody have any comments as to physical durability? How does the CHARM survive purse/backpack duty? My GF is returning to university this year (has been out of school for several years) and it's gotta be reliable and durable.

It's plenty durable, you could probably find one of those slip in pouches that fits the Charm, there aren't any silicon skins or cases made for this model yet. The keys are a bit small but easy to get used to, lady fingers shouldn't have any problems. It should be a good choice for a Christmas gift.

Actually Telus sells a couple of silicon cases at their store

The build quality seems quite solid, and the fact there is no hinge to wear out or snap off tells me it would age nicely in that respect, however performance wise I'm not so optimistic, particularly because of the 348mb RAM. At least that's what Telus lists on their site. I can't see that being nearly enough once you get a few apps on there, but I guess it depends on the user.

It's 512MB but /data is sized to 348MB (where you install apps), trust me that's bigger than many other high end phones. The HTC Desire also has 512MB but only has 150MB for app installation, and after installing less than 10 apps I'm already under 40MB free and will be a problem when I get 2.2 Froyo and Flash (Flash takes up about 20MB). That much on the Charm is nothing to worry about, even my 256MB Quench still has 105MB and about 30+ some apps installed.

Does this thing run slow? from video reviews, it doesn't appear to be

At times motoblur does slow the phone down but otherwise its pretty snappy. Also anyone that has it check the market for Engadget and Linpack. Those are two apps i was unable to find
