That's because the app allows for browsing to specific device locations. This works even without the patch. The patch unfortunately does nothing for us, especially since its already implemented into the ROMs we have available. Link2Sd and the like are also useless. Thanks KitKat...
FolderMount sorta/kinda resolves the issue except you have to setup each and every folder you want information to be read/write to/from the external SD. Works with the default Download folder on the internal storage. Give it a look, the interface is really simple. Free version only gives you 3 folders but its worth the paid version if you have lots of big obb's and Android/data stuff
