Accessories Extended Battery - 3500maH Gorilla Gadgets Review

I got the gorillagadget.com 3500mV extended battery. I use bluetooth all the time, so it's always connected. My apps have free range of GPS if they want it and constant 3g access. My phone's been working from a full charge, for 18 hours it's gone from 100% to 40%. Not too bad. I do alot of work where I need to use my bluetooth headset alot while driving. Honestly not too bad. Battery temperature is usually at an average of 87F.

The holster (which is sold out atm) from gorillagadgets.com actually broke on me after I had forgotton it was on my side, I laid down and turned, broke the clip :/ . But it was like $10 so it's not that big of a loss. The battery and custom back is built very nice however. I do like it.

Stats:

For the 18hrs it was unplugged from full charge:

Cell standby: 31%
Bluetooth: 30%
Phone Idle: 29%
Voice calls: 5%
Display: 3%
Android System: 3%

Taken from mini info available from the android market.

Since last unplugged (18hrs) however, bluetooth has been enabled 100%

Not sure about the linking rules here, so I have decided not to link. The price for the battery and Back replacement cover is $24.99.

That's my two cents!

The only gripe I have about the Gorilla Gadgets battery, is the fact that it is not a true 3500MAH battery, and neither is Seidio 3500MAH. The largest possible battery for this phone is a 2400MAH, which is a 2700MAH rated battery. In china, where they are getting these batteries and re branding them, the factories just print whatever MAH rating they want.

I purchased the battery from accessory geeks, the one from seidio, and the one from gorilla gadgets... I have all the same results from each... However I would recommend the accessory geeks one simply on the principle being an honest 2400MAH and not having to lie to customers. take a peek, link is below.

Dude, don't you peddle Gorillagadgets accessories? Why send him to accessory geeks and not your own site? I'm not mad, just thought it was weird... Seems like every 3500mah thread you link gorillagadgets batteries?

I don't really choose anything particularly... i just suggest what's worked for me... i'm a web developer, I just made the brand and the website.

I ordered the one from gorilla gadgets and love it. Such awesome customer service. The back cover I received did not fit correctly on one corner. Notified them and they immediately sent a new one. The battery works great too.

Let's just be clear from the start both Tyler and myself have vested financial interests in which battery you buy. Tyler's recommending the Accessory Geek's battery because he gets paid every time someone clicks that link and buys the battery, just like a portion of every Gorilla battery sold goes toward my pay check.

That being said what Tyler is saying is only partially correct. It is true that there are no batteries for the EVO 4G that give you 3500 mAh of usable capacity. However, I know the Seidio battery tests in at just over 2700 mAh to just over 3000 mAh. I've spent a bit of time working to get our batteries on par with those from Seidio and quite frankly we're pretty close.

In China you have 3 options for getting batteries.
1. The markets. These are pretty variable terms of what you actually get, but I know that there are batteries there that test at an actual 2700 mAh. If you're over there JDX makes the best batteries available in the market, they also make most of the back plates for extended batteries that are out there.
2. Suppliers. These are companies that assemble batteries and then sell them. Basically they put together batteries, slap your label on them and buy a back plate from JDX. Again quality is variable and depends on the Q.C. in the factory.
3. Make them yourself. This what we do. You go out and get all the components then assemble the battery in a factory you own. This way you get to ensure Q.C. and what actually goes into the products. We also have opened molds for several of the back plates, so we are in control of the whole process.

In terms of rated capacity vs actual capacity. Rated capacity is a number that is strictly based on the volume of the cell. There is a +/- 5% error in the calculation from the start based on variability of cells. Then you have to figure another 10 to 15% on top of that for juice that is unavailable, to keep you from killing your battery. Then probably another 5 to 10% based on the cell manufacturer's secret formula. So in terms of actual capacity you're looking at anywhere from 15% to 30% less than the mathematically rated capacity. This is the way batteries work and industry standard is to put the rated mAh not the usable mAh.

At the end of the day Seidio makes a good battery. So do we and we sell it for less. I don't know about the Accessory Geeks battery, it's probably good as well. You can go on ebay and buy one for less than any of us sell them for and you probably have decent chance of getting an ok battery. What sets us apart is as someone here mentioned if you have an issue we will stand behind the battery. If you're back plate is broken or doesn't fit right, good luck with ebay. I don't know what Accessory Geeks customer service is like, but good luck getting a hold of a real person at Seidio.

Using the included battery on my Incredible, I would get 10-12 hours; with the Gorilla Gadgets 3500 I now get 36-48 hours! Not only that, but the thicker profile is definitely to my liking - the phone now is much easier to handle and has a more comfortable "heft" to it.

Also, the back that Gorilla Gadgets includes fits perfect; AND, once when I dropped my phone which caused a couple of minor chips in the new case back, I called Gorilla to order another back - they looked up my order and simply sent me another at no charge (I was fully prepared to pay for another case). I don't know if that's because my order had been with 90 days or whether it was just good customer service, but I was impressed.

Got the battery yesterday and used it till it shut down. Charged over night and have been using my phone since 7 am. With light web use and texting looks like I might get 12 hours out of it. I was expecting more .........

I have the Seidio 3500 with new back (very cool feel to it) Have been through the charging cycle 4 times now, and the extended life is absolutely impressive. The new back fits like OEM, and I like the added protection to the camera lens. All thumbs up. Be sure you wait for 5-6 charging cycles, tells you that in the included instructions, also I have read in many places it is not good to take lith-ion batteries all the way down, not made that way.
They are not susceptible to memory like the old days.
Also remember that when the led turns green, you are not fully charged. I believe the led indicates a full charge on OEM battery, you need to leave it on the charger for a longer period, recommend over night while sleeping. After all that you should be impressed.

Same here....i got the Gorilla Gadgets battery last Friday and have followed the instructions on conditioning (fully drain then recharge)the battery (2 times now). seems like i'm only getting between 12 to 14 hours with normal use (some texting, occasional web browsing, and some phone calls). all my antennas are turned off unless i need them. i was really expecting to get more time usage out of it. not sure if i got a bum battery?

Jceinc (and anyone else)

so after conditioning the battery 4 times i decided to check how often the different accounts on my phone were syncing. found some accounts that i could care less about like News, Stocks etc. turned those off and turned off Facebook as well. changed my exchange sync from "as items arrive" to every 30 min.

i can't believe the difference it has made. even with the new extended battery (which was much better than the stock battery) my EVO would turn off around 10:30pm (after taking off the charger around 8am) but after turning off and changing the syncing for all those accounts, last night at 9pm i still had 49% left (and i even took it off the charge an hour earlier...at 7am). from 9pm till 11:30pm i turned on all my antennas (wifi, mobile, blue tooth, and gps), had the display brightness turned all the way up and watched a netflix movie and still had 19% left when i put it on the charger.

i guess those accounts automatically syncing so frequently use a lot more battery than i thought. anyway i hope this helps anyone else having issues with trying to get more life out of their battery.

please let me know if your results.

I saw lots of extended batteries sold inclusive of freeover-sized battery doors on GlobalDirectParts' home page a few days ago. it inclues HTC, Blackberry, Samsung and so on. the price is also not expensive, most of them are under $20.

I HIGHLY recommend paying a few dollars more and getting a quality battery from a reputable seller. That knock-off chinese junk usually won't give you the same usable battery power a "real" battery will no matter how highly they rate it. They also don't last nearly as long before losing capacity. Additionally, they are often prone to leaking or worse, and some even can't take overcharging. Modern batteries know when they're fully charged and can handle being left plugged in. Some of the chinese junk is on par with the old Ni-Cad batteries and will overhead and rupture.

Save a few bucks and risk destroying your phone? Not me!
