Help Extended Battery doesn't work

Getshane3

Newbie
Hello,
Well here is the situation.
I had the original droid 1 battery in my droid 2 and it drained really fast. Probably 10% every 10 minutes or so and that was not with heavy use. That was just texting and doing browsing every once in a while.
I called Verizon about this and they offered a extended battery free of charge. I was pretty excited to get it since I've heard nothing but good things about how long it lasts.
At the moment I am using GoLauncherEx and I have a feeling that might be doing it. But I don't see how because so many people use it and never really complain about battery issues.

As soon as I get the battery, the only new thing I install is "Lookout" since I supposedly will get much better battery life. Well, now my phone is draining just as fast with the extended battery as it was with the standard droid 1 battery.
Let me also add that I think this is a brand new battery since it came in the box and everything.

Any idea?

If it's happening with the new battery, it either sounds like a faulty phone, or rogue app causing problems.

What does it tell you is eating the battery in the battery usage screen?

Settings -> About Phone -> Battery Use

In the battery usage screen I have the following. These are the first 5 top usages.
Display - 32% (I have the screen on the lowest brightness and I keep it on that)
Android System - 20%
GO Launcher EX - 13%
Media - 10%
Android OS - 10%

Go Launcher shouldn't be taking 13%, I have that installed and I'm "lucky" if I see it in battery stats at all. Try uninstalling that, see if it makes a difference?

10% every 10 minutes is still insane though? Is the handset new? Or have you had it a while and the problem has just started happening?

I really don't want to uninstall Go Launcher to be honest because they organizes everything for me. I may shoot the developer a email about it.

And I just got this refurb with a extended battery almost 2 weeks ago and it started happening within the week I got it. I had the same problems with a standard battery on all 6 of my Moto Droid 1's (Went through 6 droids and none of the replacements were due to physical damage if that tell's you something)

Edit: Also 10% every 10 minutes was kind of exaggerated. I just ran a test. The phone had a full 100% charge 2:56PM. I sent maybe 10 text messages at most from than until 3:34 PM and have already dropped 10%. I did nothing but send text messages, no browsing or anything.

Regardless of the battery you use, the first 10% will always deplete the quickest.

Do you live in a weak signal area? If the phone is constantly searching for a better signal, that will have a big impact on battery discharge.

Are you charging the batteries properly on their initial charge? 8 hours uninterupted, then discharging until they're empty?

I do live in a weak signal area but I also notice this problem in good signal area's as well.

And too be honest, I throw my phone on the charger whenever I am in my room. The main time I charge it is when I go to sleep. I hardly ever let me phone drain because I'm on the go so much.

That's how you're supposed to charge Li-Ion batteries, it's the first charge an discharge that are important.

Have you tried recalibrating the battery/phone?

Are you rooted? If so, then it's even easier. Download Battery Calibration. Keep your phone on charge for an hour or so after it claims to be full, open the app, hit caillbrate, unplug, then let your phone drain completely. Charge up again and you're good to go.

It can also be done by wiping the battery stats within clockwork.

Thank you.
And also,
On the other thread, it says to let your phone charge all the way uninterrupted. Does he mean to not use phone at all or does he mean to not unplug?

Well here is the update.
My phone is still draining just as fast. I did the exact method that was posted in the Battery Optimizing thread.

Fair enough.

I know you say you like it, but us Go Launcher still taking over 10%, if so, that might be your issue.
Actually,
I forgot to post back here but I checked the usage again a couple of times after that and it wasn't showing up as using 10% anymore. It wasn't showing up at all. I just checked one more time and it wasn't even there.

Ok.

3G is a big drain on the battery, as is WiFi. When you don't need them, try turning them off.

In Wireless & Networks, is there a setting called "Enable always on Mobile data"?

Roughly, on average use, do you think you'd get from the battery?

There isn't a seting like that. And I usually always turn off Wifi when I'm not using. I just find it very odd that that is a "Extended battery" and I am getting the same battery times as a normal battery. I find it pretty ridiculous.
