Help external hard drive problems

I am having issues with the transformer not recognising files from external sources on the USB port. It sees a LG 500gb external as a USB2 and no files appear. A sony cybershot is also seen as a USB drive and does not show the dcim file on the cameras sd card. Any suggestions?

Try plugging the stuff into the dock, UNDOCKING, and putting the Transformer back on the dock.
For some reason it seems to detect my harddrives better that way.
