External keyboard use on identity tab?

Hi all.
Someone direct me on how to set my identity tab for the use of an external usb keyboard. I have an external usb keyboard/case; and a usb adapter that helps me connect the usb terminal of the keyboard to the terminal of my tab's usb cable. But when i do the connections, the external keyboard is not noticed by the tab. Settings problem? someone help please...
