how do I save things to my external memory

In many apps, if you open the apps own settings there is an option to change the default location for data storage to the external memory or sd card. If you do this the app will normally create a folder on the sd card for future data. You can then use a file manager app such as ES fileExplorer to move existing files from the internal storage to the new folder.
