External Microphone

I have a plug in microphone for recording sound using the app 'Tape a Talk' works brilliantly muting my moto g internal mic.
I was hoping to use it when recording video but the internal mic is still used for the sound.
How can I get the camera app to use my new mic?

Thanks electricpete, don't think I am going achieve using the external mic.
I am using the Google camera app and there is no option to switch mics to an external one.
I have searched for apps that might do the job, but no luck!
Shame because audio quality is very good using the Tape a talk app.
