Help external sd card not visible

Just got myself a Mini S3 to replace my aged S after the headphone socket packed in and it stopped reading the SD card.

I've transferred over a 16gb micro SD but the phone doesn't appear to see it - if I go into the storage settings the Sd card section merely reads "insert SD card". It doesn't show up if I connect the phone to a PC either.

Curiously all the apps I had on my previous phone ( which were running from the SD card ) have reappeared and are running ok so somehow the Mini has read the SD card but doesn't want to admit to it.

Any suggestions?

Apps that were on the SD card don't transfer with the SD card. The apps you have that transferred came from Google. It's normal than if connected to internet, and you setup your phone, Google will automatically download and install the apps from your previous phone to a new one.

Remove the card from the phone, get a card reader and plug it into a PC. If the PC can't read the card from the card reader, the card is dead.
