Extreme overhitting

So on Tuesday evening, after Sandy passed right by my house (surge stopped 10 feet away from my house) I had no power in the area and an extremely bad phone signal. I was able to get my phone to 50% battery from a friend. An hour later while my phone was on stand by and I did not touch it once, I pick it up, and I have almost dropped it, because it was exetremly hot. I turned on the screen and the battery life was at 10%. I know I did not use the phone for the time, but prior to that I have sent some pictures of storm damage to some of my friends, and some of the pictures did not go through. I'm just curious if this is because phone had very low signal, almost no access to internet, CPU usage or else.

PS my phone now is fine, and by the way MetroPCS worked really well during the storm.
also sorry for typo in the title

Not sure about the over heating. It could be that the storm caused major radio infrequencies and cause the phone to over work to keep a strong signal through it all. Glad to hear a good story too much sorrow in the news from it.

I spent a weekend at Anna Maria island and I had no signal there whatsoever and my phone did overheat there and i really think it was due to my phone working so hard at trying to get some sort of signal. It hasn't happened since.
