Help Extremely Slow 4G

I'm using PDAnet right now, and my phone is showing 2 bars on 4G.
Here are my speeds: 0.60 DOWN and .04 UP. Although there is a pleasant ping of 80ms!
I realize two bars means a fairly attenuated transmission, but .60mbps?
Using the speed test app on the phone in different 4G areas Ive received the same results, even in areas where i was standing right by the tower (full bars).
Whats going on?

PDAnet isn't the problem. I get the same speeds on the phone, even where there is full 4G coverage.
I still love this phone, and t-mobile has been pretty decent. I'm just hoping HSPA+ continues to grow so i can see some real data speeds.

Low signal problems with this phone. Disconnects and bad data speeds on mine. Had to return it. I will wait for fixes then maybe buy it again. I wont buy it again unless it has Gingerbread from factory. I bet by the time that happens the HtC Sensation and HtC 3D will be out and I will say goodbye to the G2x. Though the Nvidia chip runs fast I still expect to pick the HtC. LG and Tmobile have disappointed me with the G2x.

each phone is different in its bugs. this phone i have now the replacement is flawless other than an occasional app loader asking to force close or wait on wake up. part of that problem is all the prefetch android does. I notcited my member was down to 55mb with all the apps android was pre loading. My app killer took care of that.

My speeds are fine alot slower than advertised but they are still rolling out towers and sites as well. I use an app also to find the cell towers im actually on to see if that the problem as well.

I am pumped about my speeds! Did speedtest 5 times in a row. Best speeds were 8.57 Mbps down and 1.60 Mbps up!
Fastest speeds I've seen.

the other problem with this phone is it does not drop from 4G to 3G since it does not have 3G capabilities. It drops from 4G to 2G when it losses the 4G area, wow!. Am I right about that?

I believe it does drop to 3G, it's just that the indicator does not change, since the 3G and 4G network is one and the same at T-Mobile.

I don't think it is an ultimatum of being between 2G and 4G.

So the 2G is only used when there is no 3G and when we get throttled after the 2 gigs are used?

T-Mobile's 4G is 3G with improved antenna technology, so if a tower is broadcasting 3G, its broadcasting 4G. You wouldn't want your phone to use 3G.
Anyway, my phone may not get the greatest data speeds, and occasionally looses its connection, but I'm okay with it. Its still a great phone. The last phone i had was a Verizon feature phone, judging the G2x against that makes it shine even more in my eyes. Also, vanilla android makes my day.
EDIT: Screen caps like this make me a little sad, though.

I use to get about 1.2mb with my nexus one in my bedroom with 3G now I get .50 with the g2x in the same position over 4g. Most of the time it's at .2. A little bit unacceptable.

Same problem with mine. I had the LG Optimus V with Virgin Mobile, the G2x is slower and disconnects completely intermittantly in my room. The Optimus V never disconnected and the 3G was slow but better. I returned my G2x already and will wait for some fixes hopefully then rebuy. The HTC Sensation would be nice to wait for but I read up that it will be very difficult to flash that phone due to encryptions on the phone. It will be released in about 1 month. I still haven't decided which one to get.

I have no problem at all with my 4G speeds on my G2x. I assume it depends on the area you are in. I live in Lansing, MI and I get anywhere from 7 -12.8 Mbps down and 1-2 Mbps up!
In my opinion this is awesome for phone data speeds. I will admit there are a few areas and some buildings that reduce this quite a bit, but 95% of the time I get 7 Mbps or better here.

I agree, that is awesome. I'm also jealous since I do not get speeds like that.

i jsut ran mine 6396kps down and 1093 kps up. this was in my apt on a nice sunny dayd with 3 bars 4g

Tmobiles 4g is a little overrated...not to mention hspa can also be slightly faster 3g and not 4g. The only reason I went with a 4g phone is because 3g is spotty and showing no signs of improvement noe that 4g is out

I agree with this. My 4G speeds from T-Mobile seem to be less or the same as the 3G. And like this user stated, T-Mobile doesn't have a "real" 4G/WiMax network.
