Help Extremely strange lock screen anomaly

A strange thing happened to my lock screen today (very strange indeed as I did not have a lock screen set at all). I was charging my phone on a car adapter and when I turned off my car, my phone screen turned on as it normally does when disconnected from a charger; however somehow this time it displayed a lock screen that I've never seen before. There was an undulating "slide to unlock" (exactly as I've seen on an iPhone but never on android) prompt at the bottom, a large battery icon in the middle left of the screen with a line going across to the middle right with a message that read "please charge soon" and a clock and weather widget, I found I could drag left and expose a more detailed weather forecast. After I unlocked my phone I could not find that new lock screen anywhere nor could I get my phone to show the lock screen after being unplugged from the charger.

I've checked the settings for any app that could have influenced that and activated my swipe lock screen, checked my lock screen widget settings and clock settings but there doesn't appear to be any way to recreate the lock screen I experienced earlier. I recently updated to 5.0.1. My girlfriend has an identical phone and also experienced this anomalous lock screen, only once and the only evidence we have that it happened at all is that our descriptions of the screens are the same.

I've searched high and low for a description of a similar event but I haven't found anything. Does anyone have any idea what I experienced?
