Facebook app bug: "You have 1 new message"

Has anyone else experienced this glitch? starting a couple of days ago, I began receiving a notification for a new message from the Facebook app (usually every time I opened it, but other times as well I think). However, there is never really a new message in my facebook inbox. It's getting to be annoying since I have to clear the notification screen of the icon all the time.

Anyone have any idea what's up or how to fix it?

Don't have an answer, but same problem. If I clear the message it just comes back a bit later. No new messages. Argh! I JUST installed the FB app after zapping phone. Had no problem like this before.

what if you clear data on the facebook app, will it go away?

This fixed my issue:
Go to Settings->Applications->Running Applications->Facebook. (if it is currently running). Stop it.
Go to Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->Facebook.
Clear Data and Clear Cache.
Restart Facebook.
You will have to enter your credentials again.

It's been 2 days now and no "new message" notifications (except when I really had a new message).
