Facebook, People + Messages Sync

Hi everyone,
Can't believe I've been this slow getting an Android phone but its 2011 now and I'm up and running with a HTC wildfire.

I've got a bit of an issue with the
People App and Messages App.

If I sync my facebook contacts I end up with a tonne of people who I knew from school etc. that I don't need to ring, in People I can go to view and turn off FB contacts which still lets me link any useful contacts to their relevant FB page. Perfect.

Sadly when I go into messages there's no such view option and I end up with a tonne of people I don't really need.
Is there anything I can do about this so that I can still link my FB contacts with their profiles for 'useful' contacts but not have them show up in either the People or Messages contact list?

When you set up your FB contacts to sync you should be able to select only the contacts that are already in your Google address book.
 
Nope. Just the people you already have. Like if I'm on your FB but I'm not already in your Google contacts, but your mom is in your Google contacts AND your FB; her entry in your Google contacts will be updated with her last status update and her FB picture but I won't be in your contacts at all.
 
Sorry I should have explained better:

By "they won't all be in my Google address book?"

I meant that all of my contacts that I have transferred from my old (rubbish) phone, won't be in my google contacts but some of them have FB pages. I'd like to be able to link them to their profiles without the flood of everyone I knew back at school hitting my address book.

I dont see that option... it seems to just offer to sync or not (there is no qualifier if they are already in Google.)

Where should I be looking for that option? I have an ATT Samsung Captivate.... might the options be different by phone on something like this?

I'm on a Verizon Motorola Droid 1 but I go to the Facebook application (make sure you're on the main page for the app where you have all the icons for messages, newsfeed, photos and the like) and hit your menu key. Select Settings. Scroll down to the bottom and you should see "Other Settings". You can select Sync All, Don't Sync or Sync to Existing Contacts.
