my wife just got a Samsung Stratosphere and apparently this is still a problem. I'll try the Quickpic solution but its a shame this thread is 2 years old and its still an issue.
I don't know if this would be a solution for the Facebook photo issue but for those of you concerned with just having photos turn up in landscape after having taken them in portrait mode, I turned off Auto Rotate Screen in Settings/Display (I have an Optimus V) and that fixed it for me. It shows correctly in my photo album and also when I send photos via texting or email. I hope this works for others.
