Facebook Update Problem

Temma

Lurker
I have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G which recently developed an annoying problem.

I get notifications that Facebook needs to be updated. However when I apply the update, it causes an error message that the phone is low on, then eventually out of memory. If I uninstall the update, that fixes the problem... until I try to update it again.

I don't have a Facebook account, don't want one and NEVER intend to use Facebook.

Since the app came installed, I cannot uninstall it, nor can I move it to the SD card.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

Thanks.

Hi,

I know where you are coming from, wanting to update everything. I do it myself and really it isn't a bad habit.

I suggest uninstalling the update, visit 'Manage apps' in settings, Force stop, Clear data and see if you can actually Disable it.

Regards,
Andrew

Edit: BTW, I'm a Facebook user myself. This Facebook app pretty much uses the most resources on my bloody phone. But I deal with it cause I use it. Know there are alternatives, but the thing is the ones I did look at miss things like simple sharing of photos from gallery. Shame. Would appreciate Facebook being cut down to size. It isn't everything, but here in Australia, it's all my family and friends use.

If it came preinstalled system application, then difficult to uninstall unless you are ROOT. If it is ordinary installed application then it is easy to uninstall.

Open the Google Play and then go to the FB page where you tap the button to update it. Tap on the Menu and untick the box for "Auto-update". There's no way to stop the update notification for FB unless you disable the update notifications for all apps in the Google Play settings.
