Facelock app

Do you still unlock your phone with multiple buttons?
Facelock brings A-typical single touch unlock option for your Android device. It uses leading facial recognition algorithm to secure your device.
Set the trend with the cool and exciting Facelock app. It enables setting up of an individuals face as the key. The front facing camera is launched once the lock is activated. It verifies your face, within seconds!! as the password to your Android device.

I highly doubt this works. Sure, it can detect faces, but specific faces?

That little 1 MP camera on the front wouldn't be able to give the app enough info of your face. It probably just tells the different color of your hair or something, but show us the app, and I'll try it myself.

This is my initial reaction as well, but I'm more than willing to reserve judgement until I see it in action though.

I tried it a few months ago and wasn't terribly impressed with it, though it did superficially work. A friend of mine wondered what would happen if an intruder waved a photo of the phone owner in front of the camera, but I never tried that experiment! I ended up uninstalling it.

It shows up when I search the Android market online, costing $1.99. A good example of how the fifteen minute return policy hurts developers....I don't see a free trial, and even if I hadn't had an uninspiring experience with it, there's no way I'd pay $1.99 for an offbeat app like this that I hadn't tried personally. I assume it was free when I tried it.

Added after pondering for a moment....It may have been an iOS version I tried on my iPad 2, not positive now. In any case, I didn't keep it.

Did it actually work though? Would it unlock for you, but not your friend?

It did work (unlock) for me. It was pretty finicky about how I held the phone, if I didn't have it very close to the same orientation to my face, it wouldn't work. Didn't unlock for the one other person I let try it. Not an exhaustive test!

But very reminiscent of how voice recognition worked (not) only a year ago. It only understood mid-western US twang. On a good day!
