Root Factory data reset after root...

I'm new to this whole thing but I'm determined to learn. I'm using my old motorola droid as my learning platform. I rooted my phone using motofail. It rooted just fine, I then added rom manager by clockwork. I clicked on the flash clockworkmod recovery icon at the top of the rom manager menu. The bar showed that it completed. I then clicked on download rom and downloaded the miui rom to try out. Everything installed and the phone booted up. At this point the start up screen was obviously a different one from the original droid logo that loads. But it wouldn't go past this screen and kept reloading the animation and sound. I went into the recovery mode and without knowing any better, I did a factory reset. I haven't been able to root my phone since. What do I need to do to get root back? I assumed that the recovery that the rom manager did would replace the original data reset, that is why I selected it. Which option do I need to select if I am in this situation again? Is there something that I missed when doing the recovery?
 
Most ROMs come with root preloaded - so if you're getting an error saying something like "cannot copy file" or "Copy denied" or something about file permissions, then you're probably already rooted.

The Superuser.apk is available from the market (see http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su ), so having wiped /data and /cache (which is what a factory reset does) won't necessarily hurt for that one app, just get it from the market. The other files are not pushed to either of those two partitions, so, theoretically, you should be rooted, just minus the SuperUser.apk.

Another possible problem might be if the busybox has been removed - but that is usually copied to /system/bin or /system/xbin, so that should not be the case.

So, install that app, then install ROM Manager, and if it tries to get root and fails report back.
 
I downloaded superuser, then opened rom manager. It shows no root access. And just to clarify, my droid is back to stock. I downloaded busybox from the market. When I opened it and tried to install while using the app i get an error saying "I am unable to verify whether or not certain utilities needed for this application to run are present".
 
It is 2.2.2, Baseband version is C_01.43.01P, Kernel version is 2.6.32.9-g68eeef5. android build @apa26#1. Build number fgr83g.
 
Update - while looking for any information that I could find, I decided to download superoneclick. I ran unroot and phone showed no root. I then clicked root and it went through, it took about 3 tries though. I don't know what was different, but everything is now working again. New rom is working perfectly.
