Root Factory Images for 6.0 Marshmallow out

I've noticed a lot more material animations sprinkled throughout. And the app permissions when used is very nice. You don't have to grant every app all the permissions anymore. They ask you as they need them.
 
Okay ... I've had the phone off the charger since 9:00 a.m. Granted it's been a relatively light day for calls, but usually deluge of email and a few text pictures of my grandson drooling applesauce down his shirt and I'm still at 90% ... battery stats say i have about three days left. :eek: :D

I'll take it!

BTW, three hours, two phone calls vir hands free Bluetooth and several texts later ... Down to 86%. :D
 
I downloaded the images this morning in the hopes of getting it installed this morning, however my AT&T Uverse was dog butt slow this morning so it took the entire time my wife showered and I showered and we were both ready and it said it had 8 min left to download. Shhesh. :rolleyes:

Hopefully after Arrow tonight I get to join the s'morey goodness of marshmallow.
 
My first observation of 6.0 is that my battery life isn't all that good. I wonder why... I'm pretty jealous of lunatic's results. I have nothing weird installed. No Facebook. No Twitter. Nothing standing out to me. Hmmmmm.....

Yeah something is whacked. Cell Standby is #2 behind screen.

Edit: Just to test I turned data roaming off, enhanced 4G LTE off and default to LTE/CDMA (it was on World).

This is on VZW. I'll see what happens now.

Battery life, when the phone is actively used, will not improve a whole lot.
But when the phone is just lying around (not in use, not being moved), the battery life should improve significantly - that's the "doze" feature in Marshmallow
 
I flashed it on Monday. Battery life seems to be better.

Lost the ability to tether on metropcs. Google must be cooperating with them.

Verizon ... mmm hmm.

Just to do some real world testing, I've kept my phone off the charger all day. So, no charging since 9:00 a.m. yesterday and i'm down to 55% ... and still says 1-1/2 days left.

Sheesh. I was going to flash this, but my OTA showed up before I had time. Lol. What a slacker. ;)

EDIT: Oops. Got here indirectly and didn't notice this was a Nexus 6 thread. Sorry folks.
 
Yeah, well, the last OTA gave me WiFi and Bluetooth problems so I'd need to factory reset. If' I have to do that for every OTA, I'd much rather flash factory images. :)
 
Haven't had any wifi problems. Haven't checked BT. I expected to factory reset and will if I see anything odd, but so far it was a very smooth update. Even got the storage right. ;)
 
I haven't done anything scientific but it seems like the battery is back to roughly like it was when I first got it on 5.1.1. I've been running Chroma on it which is a pretty substantial improvement. I'm not going to do a factory reset now because I'll probably end up flashing Chroma when the 6.0 version is released.
 
I was going to see how long it would go before shutting down, but out of habit, when I got in my car this morning, I plugged it in. DUH!

But, I left it off the charger overnight and did check this morning when I got up. So in a 48 hour period with normal usage, I was down to 38% with an estimated 1 day remaining. That is definitely better than 5.1.1. :D
 
I haven't heard nothing of any OTA regarding carriers . I have AT&T . not here by end of month I may flash it going to get Chromebook end of month... Patience not my strong point.lol
 
The OTA won't be coming from the carrier, it's coming from Google herself. The rollout goes something like this ... give it to about 5% of devices and hope for the best. If no major unexpected issues arise, give it to the next 20%. Sill all well? Then roll it out to 50% more and when download load lightens up, roll out to more users until everyone is included. If you are one of the unlucky few in the last groups, you could wait up to 6 weeks to see the notification. And, that's only if there are no problems.

If there is a problem, they pull it until the fix is included and then they push that out first to the first groups before any new OTA's are sent.

I just got my OTA for Nexus 6 and Nexus 7 (2013). :)
 
Well I finally had a few minutes to call my own last night (thanks Johnny Cueto for the 6 run spot for the Jays) and installed 6.0 via the system images. Very pleased so far and it has (to this point) removed all the bugs I'd been having. (WiFi/LTE switching and functionality - obscene battery drain) Also it seems to be a bit more peppy, that could be the data wipe and starting fresh as well I am sure.

Another big thanks to Lunatic59 for teaching this old dog the new tricks of flashing an operating system for Android. Hey L59 ... much love brother.
 
No problem, bro. This old dog still has a few tricks up his threadbare tattered sleeves. :)

My battery life has been crazy-good but I do know it sleeps a little more soundly and i miss some email notifications. At least I think I'm missing them. Maybe I'm just tuning them out. No biggie for me, but others might be marginally miffed.

I got no complaints so far, although from a feature and aesthetic point of view this upgrade was the least different from the previous version of Android. Perhaps our little green robot is maturing?
 
I agree, however, I am not altogether sure I mind not having drastic changes to the look and feel. I like the material design aesthetic overall and it can be terribly annoying to have to figure out where that option you're looking for is hiding now. :rolleyes:

All that said, I have enjoyed a couple of the new options, the new UI tools come to mind. Anyway a buddy (who has not been a nexus guy prior) got himself set up on Fi with the new 6P all because of watching me update mine to 6.0. He likes the smooth simple design of Android the way Google intended it.
