Help Factory reset before or after flashing a new Firmware?

I am not having much problems with my phone but to make sure everything is working well I was thinking of doing a factory reset. it is a pain but want the most out of my phone. I have done 2 updates for ICS my fist to 4.0.3 and now to 4.0.3 LPG. Now should I have done a factory Reset before I flashed or after I flashed ? Or does it matter ?

As you are using Odin to flash your firmware then Factory Reset before you flash so that you have a clean phone to flash your firmware to and no detritus from a previous version.

Ok so I have already flashed so what would be my best course of action now? Should I reset and flash again?

So I am still really thinking of doing this but I remember my Desire and it was such a chore to get everything back on my phone then I rooted and backing things up was a breeze. Now i am not having a lot of problems with my phone just some lag once in awhile and would love to get better battery life. So I just go ahead and do a Factory Reset and clear the Catch will this be the best for my phone? Or is there more to it ?

Off the phone. Press power+home+vol up to go into main menu where you can do all those. Browse using volume key and home button.

Although if like you said, no issue, you might not need the factory reset.

You've answered your own question.

Root your phone - use a backup manager to back up your apps, files and other related settings before conducting a factory reset and the clearing of cache, etc. After doing the factory reset, you can then re-root your phone, install your backup manager and restore your phone with the last backup you made.

There is no difference in the concept of restoration with your Desire, just that you need the tools and procedure to make the restoration as hassle-free as possible.

Thanks for the reply but I am not rooting this phone. My desire died because of rooting and had soooo many problems with it.
