Android Question

I gave my daughter my Samsung Tab 8 SM-T800 10.5. It is rooted (not by me) and she wanted it back to 'new' status so she did a factory reset.
When it restarted it had this flashing screen with the word 'TEAMWIN' across the centre. I had a search around and held down some buttons simultaneously and it restarted with the 'Android' icon in the centre of the screen with the words 'Downloading . . . . Do not turn off target' in the middle of the screen. It has been sitting like this for a couple of hours now and is obviously not actually doing anything. I have tried 'turning it off and turning it on again' but that doesn't work. Depending which has combination of buttons I press I get one of these 2 screens.
Has anyone got any idea how I might be able to get it back to a working tablet without having to take it to someone.
I am in Australia.
Thank you for any help.

Hi, if you want to return to unrooted factory stock download the firmware here:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/94499/T800XXU1CPHC_T800XSA1CPHC_XSA/
Instructions at the bottom of the page.
You will have to start a free account and the download time is slow. Download mode is where you want to be so that is good.

If you want to try a custom ROM that can be done via TWRP. I'll have to walk you through that though.

Just so you know. A factory reset only removes user data. If any part of the operating system has been removed it will not be restored.

Hi, thank you for your reply and I really appreciate the links and advice you have given me. The initial problem I have is that I can't download anything because it is stuck on the screens as I explained above. I really need to know how to actually get into the tablet first.
She is not overly worried about what operating system is on it . . . she just wanted to get rid of all my stuff.

You need to download the firmware from my first link onto a Windows computer. Odin is a computer program. You can't get into the device at this point. Download mode is where you need to be.

Just to reaffirm an important point about restoring your Tab S, the link @Bg260 provided are things you need to download to a computer, not to your Tab. The firmware download will then be transferred to your Tab via the Odin utility that's running on your computer once you connect your ailing Tab, stuck in its Download Mode, to it. This link is a bit more graphical and descriptive:

In the event the version of Odin doesn't work for you, try using an older version. Some have indicated compatibility issues using the latest version with older hardware.

Also, if you don't have access to a Windows PC (Odin is a Windows application), there's also Heimdall, an Open Source alternative for Linux and OS X users. Note it's not a direct port of Odin itself for non-Windows users so you need to adjust things accordingly.

You had a custom rom, most likely. Be advised that when you factory reset a device, especially one with custom firmware it could take a long time to recompile, which presents the appearance of being locked. Once you put a Samsung device into download mode, the only way to get out of there is to either flash new firmware with Odin or press and hold the power button for about 20 seconds to force a reboot.

I do have a custom ROM, I think. CyanogenMod? I think it's called. I am downloading the stock ROM from the website svim gave me. I have downloaded ODIN and I already have KIES on my PC, which I apparently need.

Rest assured, I will be back if I run into anymore issues, but in the meantime, THANK YOU to all who took the time and trouble to help me. :D xx

Kies will interfere with Odin. You don't need both. If the device is supported by Kies than that is the best way to go.
If you have the time I will be more than happy to walk you through the process.
