Help Factory reset Samsung Galaxy S

For reasons I dont want to get into, I want to reset my phone back to factory condition. I saved all I want to SIM snd microSD card. Will this wipe EVERYTHING includeing all apps and passwords

Yes it will. It may also delete some user data so to be safe backup your sd card and perform the factory reset with both the sd card and the sim out of the phone.

Ok all I want to keep is backrd up on removable cards. Is this factory reset just like doing a fresh reinstall of OS like in Windows XP?

I should have asked this in my first lol My phone is rooted so i can crack the network system key to use it on Virgin Mobile. Will factory reset cause my to have to REroot and hack the phone again? And what data if any will I loose if I "format" the INTERNAL SD card?

If you factory reset a carrier unlocked phone, it shouldn't re-lock it. If however, the network key was modified to use it on a different network you most likely will have to repeat the process.

The internal SD card is really simply a partition of the internal memory set aside for user data. All the preinstalled apps are on the system partition and won't be effected by an sd card format.

Ok all finished. All went well. Backed it all up, removed the cards, factory reset -- cards back in, everything works great.

Just bought a used galaxy s to my girlfriend and wanted to use factory reset so the old gmail account been deleted and i can start with clean sheets.

each time i try to factory reset i get this error after the phone shuts off and starts again.

Formating /data...
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2

Formatting /dbdata...
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/stI10

Formatting /cache...
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/stI11

Deleting Meta Data
Data wipe failed.

Never had this problem with my own galaxy s so hope for some creative answers and solutions

Is the phone running a custom rom? If it is you will most likely have to reflash it.
