Help Factory Reset - the cure for laggy updates? Advice needed...

My Galaxy Note 2 has become laggy with Android 4.3. I have taken the battery out and rebooted, but this hasnt helped.

Some people are recommending that we do a factory reset after every major update. If we do backup using KIES and then do a factory reset, should we then do a restore from the backup? Or will doing the restore bring back all the problems!

Also, will I lose all my account settings if I do a factory reset? (e.g. will I lose my msExchange settings - which have been a pig to get set up correctly)

Also will I lose any data stored on the phone's memory?

And what about other app setting (e.g. DogCatcher's podcast subscriptions)

With thanks

If you did a update you would want to get the old data out the device . and make room for the new data . Dont restore the data just start new .

Sorry I dont understand.

Are you saying that if I did an update I would need to do a back up, then factory reset, then restore from backup just to make enough room on the device's memory?

And why are you saying dont restore the data?
How else do I get all the data (e.g. photos) back onto the device? Should I use KIES but not use Restore? What is the problem with using restore in any case?

Either way... will I lose all my applications and all their settings?

OTA updates can sometimes cause issues with the device as the cache partitions get clobbered up.

Performing a factory reset wipes those caches, and fixes most OTA related issues.

You shouldn't have any issues if you backup important things (contacts, pictures, ect) before doing the factory reset and restore them after.

Contacts, apps, app data, calendar events, ect will be backed up by Google if you have allowed it in your setting

Wait so Google play will know what apps you have, but will I loose all my account settings (e.g. email account ID settings)?

When you re-sign in to your Google account on startup, it will recall all your google stuff. You just need to remember your google password. As well as passwords for all your other apps, like Lexulous, World of War, &c.

Factory resets are a pain but in the long run, they solve a majority (not all) of issues after OTAs. You can do a factory reset before or immediately after an OTA. Yes, you may have to set up your email again (maybe multiple if you have more than one email account)...apps, games, etc may need to be set up again.

This forum gets clobbered with posts after major updates because everybody's phone is different and everyone has their own set of apps so none of the phones responds in the exact same way.
