Factory reset S4 active

My phone is obviously a few years old, but I like it a lot and I'm not super keen on dropping money for a new one of I don't have to. Several issues have cropped up lately, though, including:
Anyone have a good tip for correcting these issues? I'm thinking of doing a factory reset or getting an S5, assuming I can keep all my apps (cloud?), game progress, etc. Thanks much.
- Phone gets pretty hot at random times, causing the battery to drain quickly (replacing the battery did not solve the issue)
- App response time is very slow, especially compared to when it was new or my work iPhone
- When connecting via WiFi, it often gives me the connection notification multiple times on the bottom of the screen
