Root factory wipe/dalvik cache

was wondering when i go to install new rom and wipe factory/data and dalvik cache, will my fully flashed cricket eris loose it settings? will i have to reflash it? or will it still be setup for text and talk and all i would have to do is install tokkens mms fix for cricket?
sorry very noob at this,
seems my root breaks all the time so im thinking maybe a custom rom with it all built in? or maybe a link to do it correctly?(thinking of sense-able 3 any suggestions?)

Unfortunately, I really don't know much about flashing to other carriers.

At this point I think that the best 2.1 based ROM to run is either xtrSENSE or xtrROM.
