Help Failed firmware upgrade with Kies

Samsung Kies is a real POS, really pisses me off

A month ago, I installed Kies to see if my SGS II LTE and Galaxy Tab 10.1 had any firmware updates. It didn't detect my tab and it kept disconnecting and reconnecting for my phone. I looked through various forums and it seems it's Kies thing. I uninstalled Kies and now a month later, it seems Samsung updated Kies and since ICS is available, i thought maybe I'll d/l all firmware updates and ICS for my phone. At first it looked good, the connecting/disconnecting thing didn't happen this time and I thought Samsung fixed the problem. However, when i tried to update the firmware, for some strange reason, it got disconnected midway. What's even worst is firmware recovery doesn't work. I keep getting a msg saying that there was an error with my i7R7R and may need to contact Samsung.

btw, i've done a quick google search already, skimmed through the results and many posts were dated at least a year ago, mostly solutions catering to modders so I don't know if those solutions apply to me and from my standpoint as an ordinary user. what steps should I take before i contact Samsung?
