Help Failed OTA Update, XT926

Lurker
Back in May of 2014, Verizon pushed an update to my phone. It crashed partway through the update and now the phone is munged up. When I try to boot it, I get a pop up about the system UID being inconsistent and it has an "I'm Feeling Lucky" button on the pop up. It then keeps popping up error messages about about various system services failing to start and I can never get to the I'm Feeling Lucky button.
When I go into the Fastboot menu, it says the phone is locked. It shows version
10.9B*(sha-61142a2, 2014-05-01 19:30:52). So I have either the build date and time, or the attempted upgrade time and date.
I used to be able to go into Recovery mode and in the recovery menu select "Upgrade from SD card". I can't get into that menu anymore (because the phone is locked maybe?).
I downloaded "Slim-XT926-4.2.2.build5.6-UNOFFICIAL-20130521-0436.zip" to try and install from the SD card but I can't get to that option anymore. I need a ROM that doesn't care what version is installed (or partially installed).
I have been round and round with both Verizon and Motorola about this with no luck. I even tried to get in touch with the Motorola software engineers but they won't let me talk to them.

How do I recovery the phone without doing a factory reset? Please understand that there are SMS messages and pictures of lost friends and family on the phone that I HAVE to recover. I have no other copies of these files. Please help me find a way to recover my phone so I can retrieve these pictures and messages.

Thanks,

Dave Berkebile
