Failed text messages continually notifying of failure

When ever I send a text message when I've had no signal but the phone hasn't told me yet I get a failed notification which is fine, but I'll keep getting them until I find the text message and delete it, even then I still get a couple more, deleting the message also means I have to type it again, anyone know how to stop the multiple notifications?

I've downloaded No Signal Alert which should help in the future and Handcent seems to cut the notifications down and bit but I still get a few.

You can turn failure notifications and sounds off in message settings (press Menu>Settings in the messaging app)

True but I want a notification, I just don't want it to notify me again and again and again until it finds a signal, once should be enough and then it should be up to me whether I should resend the message or not.

P.S. I can't find that option in Handcent?
