Falling Skies

I have a question too.

With all of the scrounging around for food, fuel, and other necessities, barely surviving, always dirty, etc, how is it that every single one of them has sparkling white teeth?

They haven't run out of toothpaste yet?

Anybody watching the premiere of Falling Skies on TNT? It seems pretty good so far. It kinda reminds me of The Walking Dead but with aliens instead of zombies.

EXACTLY what i was thinking when I first watched it. I just started watching it few weeks ago, then had to go back and watch season 1. So far, I'm really enjoying it!

Cliff Hangers are highly freakin over rated if you are going to have almost a year break.

Tv producers have had this stuck in their heads for decades. Most of the real quality shows the last few years have come from cable networks and this short season long break format is becoming popular because of bang for the buck. Would probably hurt the production value to try and make 20+ episodes a year of a show like this.

Looking somewhere that a lot of us surprisingly still do. Books. Long series books are becoming popular again and follow a different approach to wrapping the end of an "episode". Treat it like its a free standing story. Give it a real climax and a proper ending. Even prolific writers take at least 1-2 years between releases and this works.

It would also avoid my #1 big reason I loath cliffhanger finales. Awesome shows that get canceled by unimaginative bean counters. Now we live with access to archives full of video I like to go back and watch shows I missed or fell off of when they were on the air. Now every one ends with a cliffhanger and an empty page. Firefly? Thankfully we got a movie to cap that one.

Forgot to mention this is one of my favorite shows. If we see this kept up for a few more seasons I think it will be considered one of the Greats.

Yes.. good show.. I enjoy it.

That said...
Why does the mechs have to moan as the walk?
Why do the skitters not use weapons?
Why do advanced mech technology.. Can't find fighters hiding a few yards away...
So much more silly things...

Still fun
Running machinery (gyros and pumps) and high speed hydraulic cylinders. Most of the noises the make other than the clunk when they set their feet down reminds me a lot of assembly robots. I think the underlying hum is supposed to be what ever is powering it "vibrating" for lack of a better word. Kinda like high voltage power lines.

Hal and Mags hiding in the back seat of a car while a line of them walks right by was one of the worst scenes in Season 2 in my opinion. Enough intelligence to conquer planets across the Galaxy you think they would have all kinds of things on their frontline Mechs. Chemical sniffers microphones that could hear a human heart from 10 feet, infrared. Sacrificing for the story line.

The skitters are slaves and the Mechs do the fighting. I think the show is going with the premise that we are not a tough nut to crack and are giving the Overlords much more trouble than normal, even though that is such a speciest view point.:party:

I don't really buy that explanation because it sounds more like monks chanting. And the sound is also used in the opening credits.

It could be used for psychological purposes, like the speculated reason for the mechs having two legs instead of six like the skitters - to intimidate the humans.

However for me it makes them sound a little ridiculous instead of scary.

The OP compared this series to The Walking Dead, but for me there is no comparison, tension-wise. In the Walking Dead, every time anyone goes anywhere you are biting your nails and squirming in anticipation of a Walker attack.

The mechs should be this scary, but they're not, really.

Don't get me wrong. I have enjoyed the two series so far, but I wish the tension was higher. It seems like there is less at stake than in the Walking Dead. Everyone is so optimistic!

I thought the creepiest episode was the one in the harnessing station, with the fluke-type creatures swimming in the tank, and sliding down to crawl onto the children. Reminded me of the Go'auld in Stargate SG1.

yeah.. the harnessing station / slide down thingy...

was totally stupid!!!!!!
it looked like a trash disposal system.. dirty and a stupid way of delivery!
for powerful / smart beings... I can not imagine them doing anything in this manner.

I compared the two, but I totally agree The Walking Dead is far superior. Can't wait for the new season! The last two have started in October, I assume (hopefully) this one will as well.

Anybody still watching this show? I have to admit I didn't see who the mole was coming. Only three episodes left. Hoping for a strong finish. I still find that I don't really care about any of the characters, but it's good enough summer entertainment.

It's been good, pretty steady for me. Want to see some things continue to develop.

Saw the cast at Comic Con and met Ko-cheese

RIP Falling Skies. You were a show...that was on for awhile...now you're done, and I feel...not much of anything?

All that build up, and the queen alien just went "poof" LOL. :p

They must have used up their special effects budget and had nothing left at the end. F/X could have at least spotted them a few more bucks for a decent finale.
