False Battery Level Indicator

I own an LG-Motion LG-MS770. Bought it 18 months ago. At times, the battery indicator level gives false readings. Handful of times in last month or two, phone just simply runs out of juice with no warning. Charges up fine, but may take a good hour or two. Never had battery replaced. The store I bought the phone states nobody keeps the battery for this model in stock since the model was discontinued. To the point of me probably buying a new phone. Anybody experience something similar?

1) How many do you want to order?

Amazon.com: LG EAC61839001 Lithium Ion Battery for LG BL-44JH/Motion 4G/Splendor Venice - Original OEM - Non-Retail Packaging - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories

Amazon.com: LG BL44JH 1700mAh Original OEM Battery for the LG Motion 4G MS770/Optimus L7/P700/P750/Splendor/Venice - Non-Retail Packaging - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories

And find a store with people who know what they're talking about.

2) It sounds like a small dendritic short. The battery grows a crystal that shorts it, burning out the crystal, but the short drops the voltage to 0, causing the phone to shut off. Depending on how thick the crystal is (how long the short lasts), the battery could lose anywhere from almost no charge to all its charge. For $5, try replacing the battery. See Dendrite sprouts short out lithium batteries | Futurity for an explanation of the dendrite problem.
