Family Plan Help

Well, my family is currently with MetroPCS, and pay around 165 per month for 5 lines. I saw that 5 lines on T-Mobile would be $110 per month. However, I have a few questions to see if making a switch is worth it money-wise (not service, phone selection, etc.). Are taxes and other fees included already, like MetroPCS. If not, how much do I expect to pay in taxes and fees? Also, do you have to purchase new phones for all 5 lines? I'm not exactly loaded to be switching 5 phones at a high price, especially if the savings will be minimal. Thanks for the help! If there is any advice that you can recommend, let me know!

Check your t mobile configuration, do they have unlimited data for all phones, what about your current metro setup?

Those get the second line for $30 are deceptive because you have to add data to them.

Your Metro phones will not work on T-Mobile. You can:

1. Get new phones.
2. Save money by getting used phones.
3. Wait for the T-Mobile/Metro merger.

Each added line includes 500mb of 4G data per month, unlimited after that but throttled to 2G speed. Data does *not* have to be purchased separately, but if you need more you can add 2GB per line for $10 per line.

good points

I should have been clearer.

Okay, thanks. Anyone knows if taxes are included with T-Mo? And we wouldn't mind having 500 MB of high speed data, we really don't use much data.

Taxes are not included, they typically add maybe 15% (it varies according to location). If you ask your local T-Mobile store, they should know about what the taxes will be.

Since you're going to need 5 new phones, you will need some cash upfront to make the down payments on the devices (or you can trade in your Metro PCS phones towards buying T-Mobile phones). If you get top of the line smartphones then there will be $20/month payments plus your rate plan. Opt for some low-mid range devices and you can still keep the price lower than your current Metro PCS bill.

Can you use prepaid refill card to pay for a prepaid family plan at T-Mobile?

I'm not aware of T-Mobile having a prepaid family plan. They have the Simple Choice (no contract) family plan, but it is a postpaid plan, and you can't use the refill cards.

I just call Tmo Simple Choice for family.

I like the family plan bc I am now paying $70 monthly (unlimited)+$30 monthly (1500min + 30mb data) and $100(for 1 yr /1000 minutes).

With the family plan I would pay $110 (1 unlimited data + unlimited call/txt and 500 mb on the other 2 phones).

I would have to pay $10 in about tax and fees.

Which I think is OK bc now all the calls are unlimited and 500 mb of data (plenty for very normal people) on the other 2 phones.

But the only thing is that I still have money balance on those prepaid acct and all would be lost if I convert to Simple Choice now. So timing is everything.
