Root Fare well my trusted Prevail

Well after 2 years of faithful service, I have finally put my Prevail to rest, but I must say it has been one great phone ~especially after rooting...And tough as nails!

In it's time it was subjected to some rather rough use/conditions---Dropped from a 3rd story balcony, blocked a punch to my chest from a pair of brass knuckles, landed in a puddle of water, survived more than a few tosses across the room, etc, and always came out smelling like a Rose and only sustained a few minor scratches.

I had a lot of fun trying the different roms and learned quit a bit about the Android system with my Prevail, but with everything now running on Jellybean I felt it was time to move on to something newer...I chose the LG Venice and am pretty happy with it so far, but only time will tell if it holds up as well as the Prevail.

So are there any Prevail hold outs still out there?

I am also curious as to what some of you previous Prevail owners upgraded to and how you would compare your new phones?

I switched to the One SV and haven't had major issues so far. Plus, LTE rollout is in progress in my area

Lmao of the best tragic phone story ever. I have mine for emergencies, matter of fact im typing this reply from it. Its in horrible shape as well. Cigarette burn, light spots on the LCD, scratches, water damaged battery that drains even when idle, etc. I have it as my backup, i cant stay Androidless too long or i have mood swings and depression kicks in. Im only using it now while i restore my 2012 HTC Evo 4g. And the Venice is quite a dissapointment. Sold mine MINT for $40 and a LG Marquee yesterday (9/24/13 rip) cause its pretty damn glitchy and has no custom roms or recoveries, not even a method to unlock the bootloader. I rooted mine with the last ota 4.1.2 using LGPwn.apk (takes 2-3 tries then you get SuperSU from Play and instal the binaries) but pointless cause theres no OC ing or anything. As for the Marquee, i opened it and accidentally broke the digitizers flex cable trying to wipe dust off the actual LCD...

I've got both a Prevail and Marquee. Both are in excellent shape. The Prevail has 2 cases and a wall battery charger for extra batteries. The Marquee has 3 cases, 4 or 5 good 1800mAh batteries + wall charger. Both phones are capable of holding the full overclock kernels too although I don't recommend running them wide open all the time.
I also have a MINT HTC One SV with 4 cases, 2500mAh battery + charger, and 4 screen protectors.

All phones are rooted with custom recoveries. The SV is S-Off too.

I bought the Boost S3 and I only REALLY need to keep one as a backup. The others need to find good homes so I've decided to sell 2 of them. As much as I love these phones...... the fact remains that I just don't need them all. ;)

If any of you are interested in either a Prevail + extras, a Marquee + extras, or the HTC One Sv with a ton of extras, please send me a PM and we'll talk. Pictures are available upon request. I'm not going to discuss prices here because this is not the classified section. :D

I have to say that I haven't had any problems with the Venice so far [no freezing, runs smooth, apps open fast] and have been using it for about a month, but I have read a lot of mixed reviews and it seems that either they work great, or they don't...Maybe quality control issues? Who knows? I will just consider my-self lucky.

My GF bought the Galaxy S2 and that thing, despite good reviews, has proven to be very glitchy. Constantly opening apps on it's own, freezes daily, poor battery life--even with wi-fi, blue-tooth, and gps turned off...this is her second one, she returned the first one because of the same problems.

But don't get me wrong, I am not claiming that the Venice is some amazing phone--lack of 4g, low resolution, 1ghz processor, all make it what it is--an entry level phone...And I totaly agree that the lack of custom roms and no OC really do make rooting pointless. My first choice was the Prevail 2 but they were sold out.

It's possible she has defective hardware or corrupt files in the ROM because the majority of the people I know who've had the S2 loved it. If rooted, have you tried running a custom ROM?

I know one thing, my Boost S3 is a BEAST! We are able to run most of the Sprint Touch Whiz ROMs and overclocked kernels too. I'm running the MOAR ROM right now and it is honestly one of the best ROMs I have ever seen. The Wicked Sensations ROM is amazing too. :D

I agree that most love the S2 and have no problems, but unfortunately she has gotten 2 that have displayed the same problems.

No haven't gotten around to rooting the S2 yet, but I am sure it will happen in the near future.

It's easy to root from what I've read. You might be pleasantly surprised to find out you REALLY DO have a kick butt phone once you flash a decent custom ROM. Sometimes it takes THAT to unlock the phones potential. My Prevail and Marquee are 2 prime examples. They ran like crap with the their stock ROMs. I flashed several nice ROMs on them both and afterwards it was like I had a totally different phone. It literally made that BIG of a difference. ;)

It gets even better too. The S2 a ton of nice custom ROMs to choose from. Once you finally get around to flashing TWRP or CWM, rooting and flashing a ROM, you'll probably be mad you didn't do it sooner. :D

I will eventually get around to rooting the S2, but no real rush because she's not so much into the technical aspect of things, more of an appliance user ~so to speak.

But yeah, you are right about rooting and flashing a new Rom, because I seriously regretted purchasing the Prevail, but after rooting and installing CM7 I loved it...Wish they had something going for the Venice.
