Help fascinate cycling on and off?

I purchased a used fascinate phone that I want to use with my straight talk account. I just received it today and found the screen to be cycling on and back off pretty much constantly. I reset the phone with no help. The firmware version is 2.3.4 I have read of this problem a few other people have had, and seems they fixed it by resetting the phone. I havent loaded any apps at all. It is cycling while running on the battery or while charging. Any help would be appreciated.

Boot into recovery, Wipe everything - cache, Dalvik cache, factory reset. Sometimes people flash new ROMs but leave some of the old data, and that causes mental illness in cellphones.
 
I just did all of the things that were mentioned above and the screen is still cycling on and off. I really like the size of this phone and would like to use it. I left it on all day today and it was dead within 7 hours. without using it at all.

Hello and welcome to the forums . I see your android device causing you problems . I see you reset and still having problems . Did u turn off the wifi from searching for unlocked channels . And did you set the screen timeout limits and last did you uncheck the sensor for automatic brightener.
 
I have been playing with it tonight quite a bit and reading all I can. I have turned off my wifi and it still will cycle the screen on and off. What I then did was go into modile networks and under system selection and change the phone over to home only and the cycle problem stops. I live in a poor cell phone reception area. Each time the screen cycles it always is showing only 1 bar of signal strength. so now I guess my question would now be if there is a way from stopping this as I dont think there is anything I can do about the verizon signal strength.

I knew it had to be one of them cause when my wifi see a unlocked area it keeps the screen and when it search again it lights up also but glad to see you working again .
 
The problem is when it is in home mode the phone will not connect to the verizon network. I am not so sure it is a signal strength issue but it
doesnt do it in the home network mode. Just dont know how to fix the issue.

Not real sure how to do that. The upgrade option for the andriod program is no longer available on this phones programming. I went to verizon last night and they were no help at all. Wanted to sell me on a new contract and new phone. Didnt really even look at the phone, just told me how old and out of date it was. The firmware version on this phone is 2.3.4 I am pretty sure there are more up to date versions but dont know how to install them.

Ok who do you want to be the carrier . Cause if Verizon doesn't want to help go to straight talk

What kind of phone is this
 
The phone is a samsung fascinate that uses verizon towers. I am currently using straight talk and want to stay with them. I havent tried to connect the phone yet because of the connect fee and not knowing if the phone was going to work right. Will straight talk send a new program to the phone when I hook up to them?
