fast passport renewal

I'm an American going overseas in 2 weeks and I just checked my passport and saw that it expires in the middle of my trip. According to the US State Dept, I will need to make an appointment with a regional office due to current turnaround times for by-mail renewals, which is 4 hours drive away for me. Has anyone had any luck, good or bad, with a service such as the one linked below or similar or should I just bite the bullet and take a day off of work and drive to Atlanta?

Easiest thing to do is take the day off. My dad had to do it before his trip to Alaska and said it was well worth the time it took. Just make sure you have a picture with you that is acceptable.

I ran into a similar situation and contacted my senator. His office got everything expedited and with FedEx, had it handled in a week.

Turns out my employer has a contract with an expeditor and not only will I have a renewed passport by mid next week, my employer is picking up the tab for everything. (this trip is for company business, as are 90% of the other stamps in my passport)...
