Fast Phone to Phone transfer

What recommendations do you guys have for transferring files (fairly quickly) between (Android) phones?

I use Software Data Cable App, it uses ftp to transfer files and its fast.... its original use is to transfer from phone to pc but since it uses ftp you can transfer to anything

FTP works, but it is 'steam technology': it was developed in 1971 for file transfer between mainframes over audio modems that were slower than a snail. Looong before PCs and Macs were even a blink in the eyes of their creators.
The simplest and fastest way, if you're on WiFi, is via a one time setup (free) personal cloud like Minus, (invitation), developed in 2011, imo.
And of course via Bluetooth, like chan says, if the devices are within 20/30 feet of one another, and if it is not too many files (for Bluetooth you need to OK every single file for download; that can get pretty boring after a couple dozen).

Sorry I should have specified, wirelessly. I transferred a 54 MB video file to my partner's phone and it took a while. Was hoping I could use an app that could take advantage of the wireless, either via the network or direct phone to phone.

Bluetooth is very slow. Really only suitable for small and/or single or very few files. WiFi, depending on the router(s) involved that the connection is over, is much faster.

That much I know, what I need is an app that both my partner and I can install, which will allow us to transfer files between our phones?

You both already have that app: Bluetooth! Wireless file transfer within 20/30 feet!

And when you're not within 20/30 feet, like I said: install Minus, (invitation to join; you get 11GB free), stick the files you want to share in it, click 'share', and choose from your contacts whom to share it with, click send and they will receive a link. When they click that link, the file (or files) download(s) to their phone/device.

If she wants to share files, with you or anybody, exactly the same applies: Bluetooth within 20/30 feet, Minus for anywhere.

I don't think you're quite understanding my question, let me clarify.

I want to be transfer files, wirelessly, quickly (so Bluetooth is out) and directly, so no uploading to a service and back down. There's no point in wasting our broadband limit when we're standing in the same room.

NFC. You'd need to have hardware support though. As for file transfer through WLAN.... No idea.
