Faster app switching on the S3?

Mavoz

Hi,
I've moved to Android from my old Webos based Palm Pre.

Love many aspects of the new phone...apart from one key area that the Palm Pre had...speedy app switching.

To switch from one app to the other I bring up recent apps...this involves a long 2 second press of the centre button at the bottom...

Compared to webos this is a very slow method of jumping quickly from one app to the next.

Is there any way of quicker app switching? Some other way of instantly bringing up the recent apps list? Would be great if even a gesture or something could do this?

I some alternative launchers, (ie apex) you can set a gesture to open the recent apps list. Easy as that. Just you might gain/lose some touchwiz functionality here or there.

Thanks for the reply XplosiV..much appreciated.

I've been trying Apex Launcher Pro...while this works on the desktop/launcher...it doesn't actually work for me within apps.

ie. ..I'm trying to flick quickly between a Bible and Evernote...swiping up in this case just either swipes up the text within Evernote or the Bible...

I still have to minimise the app with the press on bottom button...
then launch the recent apps list with a swipe up..
then click on the new app I want..3 steps...

Ideally it is 2 steps..
Click button (or swipe) immediately shows recent apps
Choose new app (The way Webos did it)

Any other ideas? (Or am I missing something?)

Sounds like you've set up the gesture correctly, but it just doesn't cover your needs as much as you'd like.

Sorry but I'm not aware of any other ideas. Don't give up though, I'm sure someone else can give you more to go on

Try "smart taskbar". It allows you to access recent apps along with 5 different quick shortcuts. The only downside is the hovering icon that will be visible even in full screen videos. Give it a shot..

Try the Swipepad app from the Play Store. I haven't set it up on my S3, yet, but I used this app quite a bit with my Evo's.

You can set it so that a swipe from a certain area of the screen launches a grid with 9 or 12 apps that you select. It isn't dynamic like a "recent apps" would be, but it is also easier because you put your favorite apps where you want on the grid and they will always be there.

I'd start there.

Thanks for the replies...have tried Swipepad..and it makes app switching far easier...

Webos is still the best multitasking method ever made available on a phone..but Swipepad certainly gives a closer experience...thank you!
