The first update (either Gingerbread or ICS next year) that come out for the Optimus Black (P970) will be for the open european version.

After clicking the link below:

http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/web_model_list.jsp?country=06&model=LGP970

You should see:

"1 LGP970 V10e_00 NEU Europe 06/Europe OMAP-IFX GSM 4.9.8.1 http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdat...bileDriver_S4981MAN36AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.6.zip EUROPE OPEN 2011-08-29"

The 3rd field is the current version (in this case, V10E). If it changes, then the official update has come out (at least for the open european version).

If you want to download the new firmware and flash it yourself with the tool of your choice (KDZ Updater or whatever), change the version (twice in link below) to reflect the new version (don't forget to keep capitalization AS IT IS in the link, e.g. V10e_00 and V10E_00):

http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/LGP970/ANEUTL/V10e_00/V10E_00.kdz

For instance, if the new version is V21B then the link should be changed to:

http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/LGP970/ANEUTL/V21b_00/V21B_00.kdz

Just my $0.02.
