Help Faulty Search Button

Does anyone know how to disable the hard search button?

A couple of months ago, my X fell out of my pocket into a puddle and ever since my search button has had a life of its own. Sometime its unresponsive and sometimes it pushes itself.

Lately its gotten worse. Its been long pressing itself dozen of times in a row and the only way I can get around it is to keep it held in.

Does anyone know how to disable the button all together? I don't need it. Even if I have to rewrite some system files and flash it in (although I don't really know how to rewrite files, I'm just desperate).

I've been having a similar issue, though unrelated to any physical damage to my Droid X.

Seems as though it may be a software glitch, as this has been affecting Canadian Nexus S users severely.
