Favorite Coffee

We have 17 reusable pods and little unbleached coffee filters and they'll last us about a week before we clean and refill them. I tried the 100% Kona Peaberry coffee: while it's okay, it's definitely above my tax bracket as a daily driver. Other than really special occasions, I just grind up Costco French Roast beans and we use that as our fave.
 
I realize the thread title is "Favorite Coffee," but part of good coffee is how it's prepared, and I'm just curious about those who (also) use a drip coffee maker or the pour-over method: do you season your filters before using them?

Seasoning makes a lot of difference in how the coffee tastes, because it effectively cleanses any residual junk from the filter. Basically you put the filter in the basket and then pour boiling water in, at least 2/3 full, then let it sit for several seconds, and then carefully pour it out around each edge of the filter. (The smell of what you are rinsing away tells you how much better your coffee will taste.)

I started seasoning my filters about 20 years ago and it really does make a difference.

So as I said, do you season your filters before use?
 
I haven't used paper filters in years. I use a washable / reusable metal filter basket. The basket is rinsed out daily but never scoured. It is the same with the loose tea basket that we use to brew our tea. I enjoy the taste of the brine that builds up in old peculators and scrubbing that away removes some of the flavor that takes many pots to achieve. It is the same with a drip maker. I understand the seasoning method you perform with the paper filters. I taste that paper and have no desire to.
 
yeah we still have a paper filter and coffee pot..but measuring for me always gets so messy hahaaa... but i know a few chefs who did help me out mesuring..
